Over a month since the sacking of Eric Houghton, Villa finally have a new manager as Joe Mercer swaps the relative calm of Sheffield United for the Villa hotseat. Villa however don't respond immediately and are well beaten at Old Trafford to remain bottom of the first division.
Joe Mercer's first game in charge see Villa lose for a second successive game to make it six wins, four draws and fourteen defeats in twenty four division one games so far this season.
