Following their misfortune at Upton Park with a less than generous referee, the tables turn as Villa beat QPR with a hotly disputed penalty from Andy Gray in the League Cup third round. But in truth it was another poor refereeing performance that overshadowed the game and created a dangerously fractious atmosphere amongst the opposition.
Ron Saunders' Villa make it six games unbeaten in all competitions as the holders progress to the League Cup fourth round.
