Villa hammer neighbours Birmingham in a match where the score could easily have been double. David Geddis (in for the suspended Peter Withe) is the standout, scoring two, creating one and with the goal at his mercy seemingly throughout. As a result Villa once again make top spot their own as they move one point clear of Liverpool and three clear of Ipswich after 22 games.
Ron Saunders' Villa win for the first time in five to make it thirteen wins, five draws and four defeats in twenty two League matches this season. As a result Villa retake the outright lead at the top of the Division One table one point ahead of second placed Liverpool.
