ON THIS DAY
Tuesday, 17 January 1984
Tony Barton's 🏴 Villa don't have long to wait to get revenge for their defeat in the FA Cup as they beat Norwich at Carrow Road to set up a League Cup semi final with Everton in February.
But the game suffers a bizarre incident on 11' as the referee sends off Paul Rideout 🏴 for wearing rings only to change his mind after a volatile protest from Villa players and staff.
Forward Gary Shaw 🏴 ⚽ scores the opener to make it 75th goals in a Villa shirt on his 186th appearance (183 Starts) at a rate of a goal every 2.48 games.
Right Back Gary Williams 🏴 makes his 175th appearance in a Villa shirt.
Centre forward Paul Rideout 🏴 scores his ⚽ 5th goal in a Villa shirt on his 🕒 20th appearance having scored 1 in his first 10 games.
