MATCH QUOTES

"We took some good chances and we deserved to win. "I think that is football and sometimes these chances go in and sometimes not. We kept creating chances and pushing. We are very happy. "The substitutes made a massive difference. I think we had a bit of a dip at that point and the manager made the changes at the right time. The three off them combined for that goal. We have some great players and we are ready to perform. "We will have to wait and see because it is only the first game. We have a lot of ambition and we want to build on that. We want to be the best we can be. "It was very tight in the second half, first half as well. West Ham are a good team. To come here and win is massive for us. It gets us off to a good start and now we can look forward to next week. We can enjoy this win because it was a tough battle today. "I think it was just about being clinical and we did that. We had a massive block at the end on the line for us. It was really important for us to get the win today. "It's just about the system. The players coming in have worked out. The manager has been working really hard on the training pitch and we've just done what the manager asked of us so we're really happy. "To play his game. [Onana]’s got loads of confidence, loads of qualities. He's just exposed all of that today. Hopefully he can carry on and become even better than he is. "There's loads of expectations around us now, we finished fourth last season. It's not by a miracle. We work really hard, we have a good system in place. Then it's all about winning games and we did that. "We have experience, a good team, young players, some new players. We work really hard on the training pitch, we've had a good pre-season, and we're ready to go." Youri Tielemans "Unbelievable feeling. We spoke about it yesterday and I was like 'watch me I'm going to score today'. I think if you manifest it, it kind of works so very happy with that today. "West Ham are a tough team to play but I think we could never have done it any better. Starting with three points away gives a massive confidence to the whole team so I'm happy tonight. “[On the penalty equaliser] Frustrated, yeah. I think we didn't lose our focus and I think you saw it in the first minutes of the second half. We kept doing what we did in the first half and we did fantastically well so I'm just happy with the overall team performance. "For sure. I think [Unai Emery] played a massive part in me coming to this football club. I think his football IQ, his knowledge, what he can bring to me is just phenomenal. I think I can learn a lot playing under him." Amadou Onana "I am really, really happy. It is the day one in the Premier League and we were speaking the dressing room before the match that we started losing to Newcastle and finished losing to Crystal Palace and that we must try to focus on the match and don’t waste time. Don’t waste each moment to get points. "We must be consistent across 38 matches and I think the players, they were focusing very well and they were trying to be consistent in our game plan. More or less, over the 90 minutes we deserved to win. "[This is] a very difficult place. Today we deserve it but it was a very tough match. Our game plan was progressively getting better in 90 minutes. I think now the first match after pre-season some players are not fit to play 90 minutes. I think today their attitude, commitment was fantastic. "I think the first 30 minutes were very good. We were in control of the game, with good positioning. We didn’t concede a corner until the 28th minute. We scored one and had a chance to get a second with Leon Bailey. "They got a goal too, and we started the second half a bit softly. But we started controlling the game more again and deserved to win. "It [Jhon Duran’s goal] was a very important goal. He’s completely involved with us after coming back from his holidays and after [representing] his national team. There will be more rumours about him after his goal, but I believe in him. I gave him 30 minutes today and he’s very important to us. "We believe in him and he has to play, he has to be ready to train every day like he was doing the last week and like he trained today. For me we need two strikers and both have to have good performances and good commitment to play like they both played today. "You know. We believe in him. We believe in his potential. Always, we are open to working with him. Today he helped the team, he was ready and available when we need him. Today was fantastic because he played 30 minutes after the first 60 minutes for Watkins as he was not really feeling fit 100 per cent. "He added us his capacity in 30 minutes. Those two players only joined us last week and we prepared the plan to use both players in 90 minutes and they did fantastic work. "Sometimes it is difficult to accept some mistakes, but we have to accept in cases like that, [Jhon Duran is a] very young player and impatient. He has a strong energy and has always wishes to do everything. "Sometimes he has to try to get balance in everything, but we are working with him for one-and-a-half years. Always, I am being very, very committed with him to try and get of him the best as a player and even as a person. Some mistakes, of course we are trying to correct, but sometimes we have to accept it and not repeating. "At the beginning I wanted him here and nothing changed after the match today. Before the match was the same and after the game is the same. "We were before, with every player, open in case a big offer comes in, and one of those players is him. But we know his potential and we know in case he is leaving, it is because the offer is good for the club. "But I don’t want him to leave. I want to see him here with us because I believe in his process, increasing his level more and more. We will need two strikers for the long season with lots of matches, with Watkins and Jhon Duran." "The idea is to try to have players in the bench as well with the qualities played in the starting 11. This year we are improving our level facing the Champions League. Of course we want to keep the same position competing the way we did last year and we have to be very demanding with our players. We are ready to play the next match at home against Arsenal on Saturday and we showed a little bit the different possibilities in the squad. The impact of Jhon Duran was very important because he still wasn't fit to play 90 minutes, Ollie Watkins. “[For Amadou Onana] There’s still a lot of adaptation ahead, in training and in matches. Today it was his first official match with us. He was very mature, responsible and intelligent. I think this is the first step we need. The adaptation is going to be long, because there are a lot of things we want to get out of him, but his potential is most important. "It is about identifying quickly how we want to play with him and how he dominated the position he is playing. He is very mature to get as soon as possible everything tactically. "We signed Ian Maatsen and were speaking with some different players in this position now we have difficulties to manage with three specific left full-backs. We were thinking to be strong in this position and Alex Moreno is a player who he is now close to leaving. "Today I am very happy for our victory because we played with our two strikers. All of pre-season we didn’t play with them. We were using Cameron Archer, but with the idea that he could leave with a good offer. "The idea I have is to keep those strikers and exploit their potential. Watkins has been consistent for a long time and Duran is being consistent as well, not like I think he could do, but today and before the match he was in the idea of everything we were preparing. He was ready and showing his wishes to play and score. "Young potential players we finished with. “With Jaden, with Duran, with Morgan, Ramsey and Maatsen too. "It is very important their wishes to play and to help get performing like they did. There are different circumstances with different players because Jacob Ramsey after a long time not being very fit to play 90 minutes, I chose to start him on the bench, but usually he is going to play a lot of minutes and in the starting XI. "I want us to be competitive in the squad with the players and try to be ready for the long season, in the Premier League, in the Champions League and in the other cups." Unai Emery “Nothing has changed. One more day in business. Happy to score again and bring three more points to the bag, the fans were amazing today.” Jhon Durán
