Villa suffer refereeing misfortune away at Manchester United after referee Kirkham disallows two legitimate Villa goals to the astonishment of all present.
Whether that would have changed the result is moot but it certainly changed momentum as the holders eventually ship 5 at Clayton Road in the third round of the FA Cup.
Meanwhile, centre back John Boden made his Villa debut aged 24 after joining from Clapton Orient earlier this month.
