Villa suffer successive 0-3 reverses as they succumb to their obligatory annual defeat at the Owlerton to make it ten wins, seven draws and ten defeats in twenty seven division one games so far this season. Meanwhile, forward Billy Gerrish made his final appearance for Villa aged 27 before moving on to Preston North End in August 1912. Gerrish had made 59 appearances and scored 18 goals across his three seasons with the club with his standout season coming in the title winning campaign of 1909-10 when he hit fifteen goals in 39 games. Tragically Billy was killed in action - like so many others - in the senseless conflict of WWI aged just 31. Also making their final appearance was forward Jimmy Birch aged 24 who had represented Villa on three occasions before moving on to Queens Park Rangers in June 1912.
