Villa draw successive games but need a 90’+5 goal to do so.
Soon to be Villa boss Dean Smith masterminds another performance by his talented Brentford side to ensure Villa have now failed to win against his team in five attempts.
Despite being unbeaten in the league, Steve Bruce only has two wins to his credit to remain under pressure.
James Chester makes his 100th appearance in a Villa shirt to make it W44 D28 L28, 7 Goals, 1 Assist and 12 Bookings so far in his Villa career.
Meanwhile, future Villa centre back Ezri Konsa and future Villa centre forward Ollie Watkins line up for Brentford whilst Neil Maupay misbehaves once again and goes unpunished for a deliberate stamp on John McGinn.

André Green makes his 25th appearance in a Villa shirt (10 Starts) to make it W7 D6 L12, 1 Goal and 3 Bookings so far in his Villa career.
Robert Snodgrass makes his debut in a Villa shirt to become the 916th player to play for Villa in first team League or Cup football.
With Villa clearly struggling in this their second season in the Championship, Steve Bruce pulls off a real transfer coup in signing West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass on loan to the end of the campaign. Snodgrass' presence could not help Villa make the breakthrough against future Villa boss Dean Smith’s talented Brentford side. As a result Villa tumbled back to 18th in the table.

On This Day
Villa lose for the 4th time in 5 games under Steve Bruce.
Despite the result the signs are there that a good team lurks within but the outstanding footballing side of Villa fan and future Villa boss Dean Smith leaves Steve Bruce’s newly assembled Villa winless in 4 Championship games with 3 defeats.
Although a much changed line up didn’t immediately gel, the team was packed with quality and potential.
The excellent young ‘keeper Johnstone, the committed and talented left back Amavi, the dependable cult hero Hutton, the rejuvenated Baker, the leader Chester, the talented midfield trio of Lansbury, Bjarnason and Hourihane, the goal threat of Adomah and Kodjia and the exciting winger Green.
Given time this team could prove competitive at this level, the only real question was how long that would take and whether Villa could hold on to the core if it took too long.
Midfielder Conor Hourihane, 26, makes his debut in a Villa shirt after joining from Barnsley for £3,150,000 earlier this month to become the 901st player to play for Villa in first team League or Cup football.
Midfielder Birkir Bjarnason, 18, makes his debut in a Villa shirt after joining from FC Basel 1893 for £1,800,000 earlier this month to become the 902nd player to play for Villa in first team League or Cup football.
Nathan Baker suffers his 50th defeat in a Villa shirt on his 106th appearance (98 Starts) to make it W33 D23 L50, 1 Goal, 13 Bookings and 1 Red Card so far in his Villa career.

Villa draw for the fourth time in five winless Championship matches as the concerningly slow start to life in the second tier under Roberto Di Matteo continues.
New signings Mile Jedinak and Jonathan Kodjia combine for the latter to score his first goal for the club but it’s not enough to beat future Villa boss Dean Smith’s Brentford as Roberto Di Matteo’s side make it one win in eight games.
Jonathan Kodjia scores his first goal in a Villa shirt on his 2nd appearance to make it W0 D2 L0 and 1 Goal so far in his Villa career.
Mile Jedinak contributes his first assist in a Villa shirt on his 2nd appearance to make it W0 D1 L1 and 1 Assist so far in his Villa career.
Record signing Ross McCormack is taken off at half time for the second time in 7 games.
Gary Gardner makes his 25th appearance in a Villa shirt (9 Starts) to make it W5 D10 L10, 0 Goals, 0 Assists and 2 Bookings so far in his Villa career.
Future Villa forward Scott Hogan lines up for Brentford.
