Graham Taylor's Villa secure a goal-less draw at the County Ground to earn promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt. The Second Division Championship was however beyond them as a run of one defeat in twenty five was followed by six defeats in thirteen that let the title slip. Meanwhile, forward Warren Aspinall made his final appearance for Villa aged just 20 before moving on to recently relegated Portsmouth in August 1988 for a fee of £350,000. Aspinall played for Villa in 1986-87 and 1987-88 making 50 appearances and scoring 16 goals after joining from Everton in February 1987 for a fee of £350,000.

Villa end 1969 without a win in four and bottom of the second division despite earning their first point and scoring their first goal since November in their draw with mid-table Swindon.
Villa are two points from safety ahead of the distraction of a third round FA Cup tie with fellow second tier side Charlton.
Tommy Docherty's Villa make it four wins, nine draws and twelve defeats in twenty five division two matches.
Meanwhile, centre back George Curtis made a goalscoring Villa debut aged 30 after joining from Coventry City earlier this month for a fee of £30,000.
