On This Day

Five nil to the good after just 46' Villa's excellent performance is overshadowed as four minutes from full time the Walsall Town crowd invaded the pitch forcing the game to be abandoned. Serious disturbances followed. But the bad behaviour wasn't just confined to the crowd; the Walsall boardroom recorded a post-match complaint for the result to be over-turned as they claimed that Villa's Wally Jones lived more than 6 miles from the Wellington Road ground. Goalkeeper Charlie Hobson, defender Wally Jones, half back Jack Burton & forward Richmond Davis made their FA Cup debuts for Villa.
