• Following the departure of manager Alex Massie from his position in August 1950, the Villa board decided to turn the clock back 20 years and assemble a management committee to take care of first team duties whilst the search apparently went on for a permanent manager. 

• Despite the bizarre management committee structure and uncertainty behind the scenes Villa open the season with a win over near neighbours Albion thanks to goals from Johnny Dixon & Colin Gibson.

• Johnny Dixon scores for the second successive game, Colin Gibson scores and creates his second goals and assists of the season to help Villa win their opening two games under the still persisting management committee.

• Tommy Thompson scores one and creates one for the second successive game and now has four goal involvements in three games since debut with his latest coming against his former club from whom he had joined Villa in September.

• Full back Stan Lynn makes his Villa debut after moving from Accrington Stanley in March 1950 

• Centre forward Trevor Ford makes his final appearance before moving on to Sunderland later this month. Ford played for Villa between 1946-47 and 1950-51 making 127 appearances and scoring 61 goals. However Ford had contributed just two goals in 1950-51 and was clearly surplus to requirements to even this struggling Villa side.

• There is however no sign whatsoever that the disastrous tenure of the management committee will end with the appointment of a manager any time soon.

• Meanwhile referee Jackson has a shocking game as he calls time prematurely with players injured and undergoing treatment on the pitch. Such was the anger and confusion that players remained on the pitch in the full, and correct, expectation that play would be restarted to reached its full and proper conclusion. Jackson failed to do so.

• Jackson would later make the entirely erroneous claim that the injuries had been suffered in the 90' of the game.

• It is clear a manager must be appointed to replace the current structure but there appears little inclination from the club to act as they gallop towards relegation.

• Finally however it appears that time is being called on the misguided experiement as the clun confirms rumours that a contract has been agreed with Newcastle manager George Martin to become manager of Villa.
