ON THIS DAY
Monday, 1 April 1929
Villa demonstrate life under Billy Smith in miniature as they concede four and lose two days after scoring five and winning to make it eighteen wins, four draws and thirteen defeats in their thirty five division one games.
Meanwhile, three great servants of Villa made their final appearances:
Forward Len Capewell who had scored 100 goals in his 157 appearances, including the only goal of his final game, made his last appearance for Villa aged 34 before moving on to Walsall in February 1930.
Forward Billy Cook also made the last of his 61 appearances during which time he hit forty goals having only joined the club as a 32 year old before moving on to Tottenham in July aged 34.
Finally, Centre back Vic Milne played his last game for Villa aged 31 after 174 appearances and one goal across his 6 seasons with the club before retiring from Football.
