🟥 12 Dec 1931, Villa 4-5 Sheffield United, Bramall Lane
ON THIS DAY
Saturday, 12 December 1931
Villa take the lead but United equalise with an offside goal before taking the lead against the run of play after a mix up in the Villa area.
Worse was to come as United handle in the box and a penalty is denied by referee Hull much to the chagrin of the Villa players and staff.
To add insult to injury United plunder a third, albeit legitimate goal before another just after half time and a fifth two minutes later and somehow Villa are trailing 1-5 after 51 minutes.
Pongo Waring scores for the twenty first time this season before Alec Talbot is rendered lame and has to leave the field of play but Villa score two more and miss a late penalty that would have pulled off a remarkable draw.
Villa score four away from home but lose to make it nine wins, three draws and five defeats in seventeen division one games this season scoring FORTY SEVEN goals.
