🟥 31 Oct 1936, Villa 1-5 Sheffield United, Bramall Lane
ON THIS DAY
Saturday, 31 October 1936
Villa lose for the first time in five but are heavily beaten and now have just one win in seven second tier games under Jimmy McMullan. The latest reverse - Villa's 40th in 99 games under McMullan - would prove to be his last as he was sacked with Villa off the pace in the promotion race despite a strong first six games.
Meanwhile, midfielder Tommy Wood made the last of his 71 appearances for Villa aged 28 before moving on to Newport County in December 1936.
