Meanwhile, Docherty, amid a relegation dog fight, hands a debut to 18 year old goalkeeper John Phillips after his move from Shrewsbury Town earlier this month for a fee of £30,000. Whilst midfielder Mike Ferguson made his final appearance for Villa aged 26 before moving on to Queens Park Rangers in November 1969. Ferguson played for Villa between 1968-69 and 1969-70 making 42 appearances and scoring 2 goals.
