Right back Bert Sharp made his final appearance for Villa aged 22 before moving on to Everton, as Villa lost for the second time in three games. Despite the setback Villa remained top of the table on the eve of the new year and after 19 of 34 League games had a 1 point lead over their nearest rivals Everton with a game in hand.
