Billy McNeill's Villa stop a run of three defeats but are held to a draw at home by 16th placed Manchester United. As a result they are without a win in seven under McNeill and have just eleven wins in their last forty six League games losing twenty two. Meanwhile, Steve Hodge made his final appearance for Villa aged 24 before moving on to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £650,000. Villa had paid Nottingham Forest £400,000 for Hodge's services 16 months earlier and he played for Villa in 1985-86 and 1986-87 making 69 appearances and scoring 16 goals.
