• Villa stop a run of entirely undeserved losses with their third win in five to return to joint 8th in the table.

• Forward Albert J Brown made his Villa debut aged 31 after moving from Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

• Villa once again meet Manchester United at Maine Road after the war damage at Old Trafford is still not repaired.

• Once again however it's a defeat that is barely merited as Villa lose Vic Potts to injury and are effectively reduced to 10 men fro all but 8' of the second half.

• Left back Ron Guttridge makes his 15th and final appearance for Villa aged 31 before moving on to Brighton in June 1948.

• Villa's poor fortune hits again as for the second successive game they lose a player for an extended period with 10 men. Last Saturday it was Vic Potts missing all but 8 minutes of the second half in Villa's defeat to Manchester United. This week it was Albert J Brown who is forced off the pitch for over half and hour due to concussion sustained in a heavy Preston challenge.

• For once however misfortune did not stop Villa unlike at Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Maine Road for Brown returned from his enforced absence to inspire Villa to a second victory in three. 

• Brown had opened the scoring after 16', left the field after 35' returning after 65. created Jackie Martin's second goal on 69' and Dicky Dorsett's on 70'.

• Meanwhile Jackie Martin scored two and created one as title chasing Preston were swept aside at Villa Park.

• Villa climb back to joint 8th alongside Portsmouth, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton with Portsmouth at Fratton Park up next.

Villa extend their unbeaten run to five games but are held at home by second placed Burnley.

In their first visit to Villa Park since the War, Burnley take a two goal lead before reverting to almost continual defence against a rampant Villa side who equalise and miss a penalty.

How Villa could not be leading let alone trailing by two at half time mystified everyone in attendance but Villa were not deterred and continued their dominance but with seven men plus the goalkeeper stationed in the Burnley area, Villa could not break through until the 73' but once they did a second soon followed as George Edwards contributed his 8th goal involvement in 9 games before Trevor Ford missed the chance to secure both points from the penalty spot.

• Villa extend their unbeaten run to six as they outplay Liverpool at Anfield, taking the lead twice, before surprise surprise a lucky equaliser in the final minutes gifts the home team a point they didn't deserve.

• George Edwards contributes his 9th goal involvement in 10 games as Villa move into joint 5th.

• Villa extend their unbeaten run to seven but Boro take the lead against the run of play after a long punt upfield but despite almost total attacking domination have to wait until midway throught the second half to grab a deserved equaliser.

• Despite a third successive draw Villa climb back to joint fourth.

• Villa extend their unbeaten run to eight but yet again Grimsby take the lead against the run of play and even surprise themselves as Joe Rutherford misjudges a weak cross and it ends in the back of the net after 11'. 

• More astonishingly they double their lead early in the second half before Villa hit back with two goals in the final 10 including a last minute penalty to secure a paltry point.
