Biography

Player #251 for Aston Villa, Archibald Samuel Dyke, known as Archie Dyke, played as a winger for the club in the outside right position.

Archie played for Villa in the 1913-14 and 1914-15 seasons making 9 appearances.

Archie was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire in September 1886 and he made his Villa debut on the 14th February 1914 aged 27. The diminutive and pacy winger helped Villa to a 3-2 win over The Wednesday at Owlerton Stadium.

Villa had signed Archie from Stoke earlier in the month and he went on the make a further 5 appearances, all in the league, in his debut season.

Archie only added 3 league appearances to his total in the 1914-15 before playing his last game for Villa on 13th February 1915, exactly 2 years after his debut.

Archie left Villa to return to Staffordshire with Port Vale before soon moving on to Stafford Rangers.

Archie had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Archie passed away in 1955 aged 69.

Villa record an eleventh successive victory in all competitions - their best ever run in a single season - as they hammer Manchester United at Old Trafford to make it fifteen wins, five draws and nine defeats in their twenty nine division one games. Villa had won eleven consecutive games before however that had crossed the double winning seasons of 1896-97 (seven wins) and 1897-98 (four wins). Meanwhile, full back Freddie Miles played his final game for Villa aged 30 before retiring from football. Freddie made 270 appearances in his eleven seasons with the club winning the 1904-05 and the 1912-13 FA Cups and the 1909-10 League title whilst helping Villa to runners up places on four occasions.
