Bert was born in Manchester on 23 June 1900 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 12 March 1924 aged 23.
Villa had signed Bert from Manchester Central in December 1923 and he was the 35th custodian of the Villa goal in League and Cup football conceding once across his two appearances.
Bert played his last game for Villa on 15 March 1924 just 3 days after his debut and whilst he remained on the books at Villa he was to not appear again and was forced to retire after fracturing his skull in a reserve team game on 28 November 1926.
Bert had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Bert passed away in 1958 aged 58.
