Player #53 for Aston Villa, Robert Samuel Thomas, known as Bob Thomas played as a full back for the club. Bob represented Villa just once during the 1888-89 season.
Bob was born in Newtown, less 3 miles from the current Villa ground in April 1867 and made his only appearance for the club as a 21 year old on 3rd March 1889.
Villa had signed Bob from Cocknage FC.
Bob later transferred to Walsall Town.
Bob had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Bob passed away in Edgbaston in March 1936 aged 68.

Albert Allen scores Villa's consolation as an injury ravaged Villa record a 1-8 scoreline that was the biggest defeat in all competitions until Paul Lambert rocked up at Villa Park for the 2012-13 season.
Meanwhile, this was the first Villa game in which Referee Clegg had officiated since his disgraceful post match claims in the previous season's FA Cup.
Forward Tommy Green made his final Villa appearance aged 25 before moving on to Kidderminster Harriers. Despite scoring 15 goals in the campaign and creating numerous goals for his team-mates, Green was allowed to leave.
Full back Bob Thomas made his sole appearance for Villa having joined from from Cocknage FC before transferring to Walsall Town.
