Biography

Player #257 for Aston Villa, Harold Edward Nash, known as Harry Nash played as a forward for the club.

Harry played for Villa between 1914-15 and 1919-20 12 making 12 appearances.

Harry was born in Fishponds, Bristol on 10th April 1892 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on the 3rd April 1915 aged 22 scoring a hat-trick in the 6-2 demolition of Liverpool.

Harry would score a further two goals that season but just as his promise translated into first team form the outbreak of the Great War put paid to his immediate ambitions and potential.

Villa had signed Harry from Pontypridd and with a career interrupted by WWI made his final appearance on the 3rd April 1920 before moving to Coventry City in July 1920.

Harry had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Harry passed away in 1970 aged 78.

Match Timeline

On This Day

Villa end the season in fourteenth place after what had proved to be a difficult campaign and their worst since 1900-01. Villa recorded just thirteen wins in their thirty eight division one games as well as eleven draws and fourteen defeats. Against the backdrop of the increasingly global hostilities of WWI however nothing was normal and football would be suspended at the end of the 1914-15 season until 1919-20. As a result, although of little consequence against the millions of lives lost in the utterly pointless conflict, a number of players would not retake the field post war and their Villa careers therefore ended with the suspension of football. Villa’s legendary forward Joe Bache played his final game aged 35 ahead of his move to Mid-Rhondda in August 1920. Between 1900-01 and 1914-15 Joe had made 470 appearances and scored 185 goals for Villa winning the 1904-05 FA Cup, 1909-10 League title and the 1912-13 FA Cup as well as finishing League runners up on four occasions. Match Timeline

On This Day

Villa record consecutive home and away losses to Preston to make it one win, a draw and eight defeats in ten division one games so far this season as their post WWI got off to the worst imaginable start. Villa handed their latest debuts in this match to forward Walter Boyman and midfielder Jack Hampson, 28 and 22, after they joined from Cradley Heath St Luke’s and Leeds City in August and October 1919 respectively. As a result, having started the season with six of eleven players who had represented Villa in their final game of 1914-15, across the subsequent ten games Villa had handed debuts to thirteen players without finding the necessary combination to win football matches. Meanwhile, midfielder George Hadley became the latest of four new arrivals who also made their final appearances over that ten game period as he made his fourth and final appearance aged 30 before moving on to Coventry City in August 1920.
