Biography
Player #365 for Aston Villa, John James Williams, known as Jackie Williams, and nicknamed Josh, played as a winger for the club in the outside right position.
Jackie played for Villa in 1935-36 making 17 appearances and scoring 5 goals.
Jackie was born in Aberdare, Wales on 29 March 1911 and made his debut appearance for Villa on the 30 November 1935 aged 24.
Villa had signed Jackie from Huddersfield Town for a fee of ยฃ2,000 earlier in November 1935 and he scored a brace on his debut against Stoke City in the 4-0 victory at Villa Park.
Despite scoring a further 3 goals in his remaining 16 appearances, Jackie couldnโt help Villa avoid the drop and they were relegated for the first time at the end of the 1935-36 season.
Following relegation Jackie moved on to Ipswich Town in July 1936.
Jackie played under manager Jimmy McMullan.
Jackie passed away in Wrexham on 12th October 1987 aged 76.

Manchester City have a number of lucky escapes before taking the lead against the run of play following up with another strike depsite Villa having much of the play and by half time the game is as much as over as the scoreline highly flattered the fortunate hosts.
As a result, Villa follow up their first win in ten to lose for the seventh time in eleven whilst conceding fifty two and look destined for relegation.
Villa now have a single clean sheet in 24 games.
Midfielder Alex Massie makes his Villa debut aged 28 after joining from Hearts earlier this month for a fee of ยฃ6,000.
Full back Norman Young makes the last of his nine appearances before moving to Barnsley in July 1936.

Villa's terrible season continues as they lose for the eighth time in twelve and concede seven for the third time in their League campaign and have now conceded four or more goals six times in nineteen games to make it four wins, four draws and eleven defeats whilst conceding fifty nine.
Villa lose for the eighth time in twelve as Jack Palethorpe hits a consolation in Villa's third seven goal thrashing in sixteen games.
But the scoreline, at least in the first half, was highly misleading as "they had more of the game and the Arsenal goalmouth was frequently the scene of anxious situations."
Villa now have a single clean sheet in 25 games under Jimmy McMullan.

Villa are hammered for the third consecutive game having conceded seventeen and scored just twice to make it four wins, four draws and twelve defeats in twenty games whilst conceding sixty four.
Villa lose for the ninth time in thirteen as Frank Broome hits Villa's second goal across three successive hammerings having conceded seventeen.
The game however was initially notable for a bizarre refereeing decision in the opening minutes when Broome scored before the referee rescinded his decision having already pointed to the centre.
Villa now have a single clean sheet in 26 games.

Villa now have three wins in their last five games under the management committee as Dai Astley and Eric Houghton hit a brace apiece.
The game however is notable for the thuggery of the Portsmouth team and the failure of referee Jewell to sanction the behaviour. Villa though have the last laugh as a brace of penalties, both for violent play offences, win the game after Portsmouth had cancelled out Villa's quick start.

Villa lose for the first time in four in the penultimate game of the season as they are beaten by a late Arsenal strike.
Villa lose for only the fifth time in eighteen in 1936 under the management committee structure having lost fourteen in twenty three in the first four of the season.
Overall Villa make it thirteen wins, nine draws and nineteen defeats in forty one games in 1935-36.
Villa now have three clean sheets in their last 48 games.
As many of the games in hand have played out Villa fall to joint 18th on 35 points, level with Albion, Everton and Wolves but are categorised 21st on goals.
Up next is bottom side Blackburn who have two games remaining to Villa's one. Wolves have three games to play, Albion and Everton two.
The poor fixture management of the League hardly helps a lopsided look of the table but simply Villa have to beat Blackburn at Villa Park and hope that at least one of their relegation rivals fail to pick up two points across their remaining games.

Villa lose for the sixth time in nineteen in 1936 under the management committee structure winning eight but it is not enough to save Villa and they are relegated to the second tier for the first time in their history.
That however doesnโt tell the full story as 1936 had proved far stronger than 1935 with Villa recording eight wins in nineteen League games compared to five in twenty three in 1935 whilst Villa fell to six defeats across the period having lost fourteen prior to New Yearsโ Day.
Those first twenty three games had seen seventy four goals conceded compared to thirty six in the final nineteen and Villa conceded four or more goals on only two occasions in 1936 compared to nine times in 1935 including three games where they conceded seven.
This famous club with six FA Cups and six League Titles would play in the second tier of English football for the first time in the 1936-37 season.
The only bright spot of the season was Villaโs remarkable attendance figures - averaging 41,852 across the season.
The game itself saw perhaps Villa's worst half of football of the season as they were well beaten by wooden spooner's Blackburn. Two nil down after 10 minutes, 0-3 behind after 20' before Frank Broome grabs a consolation to leave Villa trailing 1-3 at half time.
Seven minutes into the second half Villa are given a lifeline as Eric Houghton converts a penalty for hands triggering sustained pressure previously unseen from the home side. Blackburn though get a late fourth and Villa's top flight status is meekly surrendered.
Villa end the season on 35 points, two points ahead of the victors Blackburn and a point from safety.
Midfielder Billy Kingdon, 30, made the last of his 240 appearances for Villa before moving on to Southampton in June 1936.
Winger Jackie Williams, 25, made his seventeenth and final appearance before moving on to Ipswich Town in July 1936.
