Jake Doyle-Hayes

Player #913 for Aston Villa, Jake Billy Doyle-Hayes, played as a midfielder for the club in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns.

Jake was born in Ballyjamesduff, Ireland on 30 December 1998 and signed professional forms with Villa as a 17 year old in July 2016. Jake was then handed a 3 year contract on 5 September 2017 with high hopes for a first team impact however despite that promise he had still not made a first team impact by the age of 21 with less than a year remaining on that contract.

Jake was promoted to the first team by Steve Bruce and was named as an unused substitute on Wednesday, 9 August 2017 aged 18 in the 2-1 EFL Cup 1st Round win at Colchester United.

For the following round - on Tuesday, 22 August 2017 - against Wigan Athletic in which Villa ran out 4-1 winners, Jake was named in the starting XI to make his sole appearance for Villa, before being substituted by Jordan Lyden in the 78’.

Jake was named in the starting XI in the subsequent EFL 3rd Round cup defeat to Middlesbrough playing the full 90’ in the 0-2 defeat.

That was to be Doyle-Hayes’ last first team match action of the 2017-18 season however he was twice an unused substitute - in the Championship win against Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Saturday, 30 December 2017 and in the FA Cup 3rd Round defeat to Peterborough United on Saturday, 6 January 2018.

During the 2018-19 Football League Championship season, Doyle-Hayes made his third and final appearance for Villa in the EFL Cup away win over Yeovil Town on Tuesday, 14 August 2018 before being named as an unused substitute in the 2nd Round defeat to Burton Albion on Tuesday, 28 August 2018.

Doyle-Hayes was then sent out on loan for the remainder of the 2018-19 season to Cambridge United before again being loaned out in the 2019-20 season to Cheltenham Town. Doyle-Hayes scored his first senior goal on 17 September 2019 in Cheltenham Town’s 3-2 win over Bradford City.

Doyle-Hayes was released by Villa on 30 June 2020
