Left back Eamonn Deacy 🇮🇪 25 makes his 40th and final appearance in a Villa shirt (30 Starts) before moving on to Galway United in July 1984. Deacy 🇮🇪 left with a record of 🟩 W21 🟨 D7 🟥 L12, ⚽ 1 Goal and 🔥 2 Assists.

Deacy 🇮🇪 is the sixth member of the fourteen man League title winning squad to have been sold by Ellis in the two years since winning the European Cup. 

Deacy’s 🇮🇪 departure followed those of Kenny Swain 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, Jimmy Rimmer 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, David Geddis 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, Ken McNaught 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and Tony Morley 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

Despite or maybe because of that his arrival is a shock and far from universally welcomed as a step forward from Barton and far from being of sufficient quality to succeed not only the great Ron Saunders 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 / Tony Barton 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 partnership but also before that the tireless work of Vic Crowe 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. 

Indeed this is an appointment more akin to the desperate days of the late 1960’s and not one of recent European champions. The appointment does however meet favour with the miserly intentions of the Chairman.

Far less positive things could be said about Turner who whether unable, unwilling or both to keep the old guard, is now also having troubles with even the newest of recruits.

Centre back Steve Foster 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 27 makes just his 17th and final appearance in a Villa shirt before moving on to Luton Town in November for £70,000 just six months after Villa had paid Brighton & Hove Albion £150,000 for his services. 

Foster experienced repeated rows with a manager who had been in post for just two months and who was already patently out of his depth and taking Villa backwards. Foster was a relieved man to make a quick exit with a record of 🟩 W8 🟨 D2 🟥 L7 and ⚽ 3 goals.

Villa then had lost regulars from their midfield and defence as yet more discontent bubbled behind the scenes; the Turner / Ellis axis, had been in place for less than 10 weeks and the wonton destruction had hardly even begun.
